Outreach Success in Western Australia

The Bayswater Women’s Hub has developed a unique Tool Skills Outreach Program delivered to organisations who support women who are starting over, or escaping family and domestic violence. The program is designed to teach women how to make basic repairs in their new home, and each participant is gifted with a basic tool kit, and participate in a session to develop the skills to use the items.

In 2023, the program was sponsored by ATCO Australia’s Communities Fund.

Guided by skilled professional JC from Women on the Tools, and supported by other Bayswater Women’s Workshop volunteers, participants gained valuable hands-on experience, mastering essential DIY tool skills like wall drilling (both brick and drywall) for picture hanging.

Equipped with brand new toolkits, complimentary memberships to Bayswater Women’s Workshop, and access to the Bayswater Tool Library, this program offers socially isolated participants a unique opportunity to reconnect with their community and boost their self-confidence. Participant feedback stated that the program was “life changing”.

Bayswater Women’s Hub not only grants access to tools and workshop facilities but also fosters a community space that encourages the exchange of knowledge across diverse cultures, generations and abilities. Well done, Team Bayswater!
