Celebrating Women’s Shed Week 2026

From 28 February to 8 March 2026, Women’s Sheds across Australia will come together to celebrate Women’s Shed Week – a time to recognise the powerful role these spaces play in fostering connection, confidence and community.

Held annually in the weeks surrounding International Women’s Day on 8 March, Women’s Shed Week highlights the impact Women’s Sheds have on the lives of women across the country and provides a national moment to showcase their contribution.

What is Women’s Shed Week?

Women’s Shed Week is an opportunity to raise awareness, celebrate achievements and invite more women to experience a Women’s Shed for the first time.

Women’s Sheds are inclusive, welcoming environments where women of all ages and backgrounds can:

  • Share practical skills
  • Learn new trades and crafts
  • Build confidence
  • Support one another
  • Strengthen community ties
  • Contribute to meaningful local projects

From woodworking and metalwork to textiles, gardening, repairs, restoration and creative collaboration, Women’s Sheds provide hands-on learning and genuine connection.

There are many ways to take part in Women’s Shed Week and support this growing national movement:

🔨 Visit Your Local Women’s Shed

If you have not yet stepped inside a Women’s Shed, this is an ideal time. Many Sheds host open days, workshops and community events throughout the week. Check the AWSA national map to find your closest Shed.

💬 Share Your Story

What has your Women’s Shed meant to you?

Have you developed new skills, found friendship, regained confidence or discovered a renewed sense of purpose? Share your story on social media using #WomensShedWeek to help others understand the value of these spaces.

🙌 Celebrate Volunteers and Members

Women’s Sheds are driven by volunteers and community leaders. Take time during the week to acknowledge the women who keep your Shed operating.

🎨 Showcase Your Work

Women’s Shed Week is an opportunity to display projects, run demonstrations, collaborate with community partners or launch new initiatives. Contact your local MP, or Councillor so they can celebrate with you, and understand the impact your shed is having in your community.

Events Across Australia

Throughout the week, Women’s Sheds will be hosting a diverse range of activities – from hands-on tool workshops and creative arts sessions to open days and community collaborations.

Some celebrations may begin earlier or extend later, reflecting the flexibility and local nature of the movement. We encourage communities to check directly with their local Women’s Shed to see what is happening in their area.

The Impact of Women’s Sheds

Women’s Sheds contribute meaningfully to:

  • Mental wellbeing
  • Social inclusion
  • Intergenerational learning
  • Practical skill development
  • Community resilience

For many members, a Women’s Shed becomes more than a workshop. It becomes a place of belonging – where women can show up as they are, learn at their own pace and contribute alongside others.

As the movement continues to grow, Women’s Shed Week provides a unified national platform to celebrate this momentum and encourage new communities to establish Sheds of their own.

Looking Ahead to 2027

Women’s Shed Week 2027 will take place from 6 to 14 March 2027.

We encourage Sheds to mark the dates early in their calendars and consider how they might use the week to strengthen visibility, partnerships and membership in their local area.
